Y10 Writing Portfolio Tasks


Task 1: Das bin ich! That’s me!
Design a profile about yourself in German.

Information you could include:
 First name, family name
 Age, birthday 
 What you look like
  Information about your family (what they look like, what kind of people they are)
  Hobbies
  Your likes and dislikes, favourite things

Aufgepasst:
-      Make sure to write some full sentences
-      Use a variety of language (e.g. Ich mag schwimmen und ich spiele gern Fuβball. Ich tanze gern, aber Rugby mag ich nicht.)
-      Use adjectives (e.g. groβ, lang, schlank, rot etc)
-      Be careful with the endings of articles (ein à einen,  groβ à groβen after “haben

Task 2: Meine Routine!

Answer the following survey about your daily routine and about health.

1. Wann stehst du auf?
2. Wann frühstückst du?
3. Wann gehst du in die Schule?
5. Was machst du nach der Schule?
7. Wie findest du Rugby?  Machst du das?
8. Magst du fernsehen? Siehst du jeden Tag fern?
9. Wie kann man in Neuseeland fit bleiben?

Aufgepasst:
-      Make sure to write some full sentences
-      Use a variety of language (e.g. Ich stehe immer um 7 Uhr auf)
-      Use adverbs of time:
-      Be careful with CAPITALS for nouns, verb endings and spelling

Task 3: Speisekarte/Menu
 Design a  Speisekarte (menu) in German. You could include all or some of the following:

-       Name des Restaurants
-       Vorspeisen - entrees
-       Hauptspeisen - mains
-       Nachtisch - desserts
-       Getränke  - drinks
-       Deutsche Spezialitäten – German specialities 
-       Öffnungszeiten – opening times (offen von …. bis…. (open from.. to..), Montag Ruhetag (closed Mondays) )
-       Phrases to do with eating, e.g. Guten Appetit, Mahlzeit,En Guete (Swiss), Wir wünschen Ihnen eine guten Appetit (they basically all mean: Enjoy your meal!)
You can use the Logo book, a dictionary, the worksheets from this unit, and the Speisekarten  samples your teacher will show you. If you finish the task at home and have internet access, try to find some Speisekarten on the internet or use an online dictionary to help you with the German words you want to use. Remember, however, that the Speisekarte you design has to be your own work!
Use colour and make it exciting! 


Task 4: School Uniform
Mode kommt an die HVHS- Endlich eine coole Schuluniform

You have been asked to design a new uniform for HVHS!
Using magazines or drawings design an advertisment for a new, stylish school uniform for your school.
Include at least four items of clothing, and add descriptions.
Start your description like this:
Mädchen tragen (girl wear…)…. or Jungen tragen (boys wear…..), then add information about colour, pattern and item of clothing.
Be careful with the endings of articles (einen/eine/ein) and adjectives (=colours -en/-e/-es).
Also add a general commentary (for ideas see language below).

Present your uniform in form of an advertisement.


Note: This writing task can be used as part of your writing portfolio for Y10 German.

Vocabulary for patterns:
geblümt (floral print)
gepunktet (dotted)
gestreift (striped)
kariert (checkered)

Phrases to use to spice up your commentary:
·        Hier ist die neue Hutt Valley High Schule Uniform!
·        Echt toll, nicht wahr?! Great, isn’t it!
·        Super cool, oder! Super cool, isn’t it?
·        Einfach superspitzenmässig! Simply-super-top-fantastic!
·        Eine absolut fantastische Kombination! An absolutely fantastic combination!
·        Unübertrefflich! Unbeatable
·        Einfach unwiderstehlich! Simply irresistible
·        Die neue HVHS Uniform ist umwerfend! The new uniform is stunning

Check your exercise book for words learnt in class!

Task 5: Mein Zuhause My home

 Write a letter to your German penfriend, describing your house and your city. (minimum 50 words).

You could include:
-       what rooms your house has
-       what you do in some of the rooms (activities or chores)
-       what your bedroom looks like
-       some facts and figures about Wellington/Lower Hutt
-       what there is to see and do in Wellington/Lower Hutt
-       what you think about your house or your city

CHECK LIST:
I used topic vocab  and resources in my exercise book

I used the correct verb endings (Ich -----e, Es gibt…..VERBen, Man kann…..VERBen)

I used correct prepositions (auf, unter, neben, zwischen, vor, etc)

I  used adjectives groβ, schön, interessant ,toll, hügelig, herrlich, multi-kulturell

I used adverbs total, ziemlich, sehr, immer, oft, manchmal, selten, nie etc

I used connectives used und, aber

I gave my opinion Ich finde…. Das ist….  (+ adjective)


Task 6:  Ferienpostkarte/Holiday Postcard
Write a holiday postcard to a German friend.
Tell him/her:
-          Where you went
-          How you went
-          When you went
-          Who you went with
-          Where you stayed
-          What you did
-          How you found it

Language and structures to use:
-         Present Perfect (ich bin nach... gefahren. Ich habe ...gesehen etc. )
-         Adjectives: schön, toll, langweilig, interessant, wunderbar etc. )
-         Expressions: Es hat Spaβ gemacht (It was fun).
-         TMP (Word order rule: Time (When) before Manner (How) before Place (Where)
-         Quantifiers (ziemlich, relativ, sehr etc.)
Before handing in your work, check it for:
-         Capitals for nouns
-         Perfect tense (sein/haben….ge______t/en)
-         Word order (V2R, TMP)
